How do I upgrade my PSE Optima bow for recreational shooting?

I have a #66 PSE Optima recurve bow at 35lb draw weight and I like to upgrade its draw power from 35lb to 50lbs for competitive shooting. I went to a Archery tournament and saw them use different limbs to shoot and I was wondering if i can attach a PSE competition limb to the take down riser to increase the draw weight

The PSE competition limbs are all ILF limbs, which the PSE Optimas are not. The Optimas are meant to be beginner bows, and as such only available in the lower draw weights. To go to the next step, try the Win&Win Winstar 2 bow. Although, very few people in tournaments actually use a 50lbs bow. I suppose it also depends on what type of tournament. You’ll see more 50 pounders in barebow divisions, you’ll see very few 50 pounders in the olympic recurve division. The Optimas are beginner level olympic recurve.

The average bow you see at the Olympics for example is about 46-48lbs for men. The Koreans, who are dominating the archery world these days are shooting about that much. Jumping from 35 to 50lbs is generally a very bad idea, your form will break down in the process. When that happens all the speed in the world won’t help you.

Another thing you need to upgrade when you make your jump to higher poundage are your arrows. You’ll need much stiffer arrows if you make that big of a jump.
